Developing a Strong Foundation in Literacy & Math

Welcome to my teaching and tutoring website! I would like to help your child develop a strong foundation in literacy and mathematics. With my background of teaching for 15 years in public school, as well as tutoring privately for 5 years and previously at small tutoring agencies, I have a lot I’d like to share with you. I’ve worked with students from ages 4 to 20. All students have unique talents, and my job is to help your child find those strengths and work through any learning challenges. It has always been my passion to study literature through history and science, so you will find that your child not only grows in reading and writing but is also learning about the world around us. Please reach out to find a good fit, whether reading or writing or math, to meet your child’s needs today!

Sincerely, Ms. McCain

** My student list is currently full, and I am not taking any new students. If you need a recommendation for a tutor, I do have a few colleagues in the area, and I could share their contact info with you. Please still feel free to reach out at jenny@jennymccain.com.

Services

Book Clubs

Your child will study literacy through a book club with a group of friends! Emphasis may be on historic fiction, great literature, nonfiction science studies, or even early readers. Book clubs will run for a school semester.

Private Tutoring

Tutoring means teaching for one. My tutoring is tailored to a range of students, from those who struggle, up through those who need a challenge. The goal is to work on specific needs of the individual. We will make specific goals for your child that could include phonics, writing, comprehension, or a combination of many skills.

Writers’ Workshop

Students can learn writing with a small group of peers. We will learn through mini-lessons in craft and creativity, spend time crafting good writing, sharing with peers, and receiving specific feedback during the writing process. We focus on the three areas of writing—narrative, expository, and persuasive.

Homework Help

This study hall time is available to current students to attend as needed. Students can bring a variety of homework assignments and have work time and help for tricky aspects of homework.

Curriculum Review

This service is for homeschool parents. If you would like to go over what you’re teaching and get more direction or explanation so you know you have a good plan for the school year, make an hour appointment for a curriculum review. We can go over phonics, look at supplemental resources, or tailor the work for your individual child’s needs.

Distance Learning

Private tutoring is available through the use of Skype, FaceTime, or Google Meet if that works better for your schedule. This option would also focus on specific learning goals to meet specific needs.

Jenny’s skills and encouragement that she enthusiastically shares with our daughter reflect the passion she has for what she does.

We are so thankful for this kind, very capable, and always prepared tutor who so sincerely and purposefully sets her students up for success.

We are also grateful for knowing with confidence that our daughter is receiving all that is needed to achieve her high school English credits.

Jenny is an invaluable asset to our daughter’s high school education. We highly recommend her!
